People keep asking me what they should do. About the job, the offer, the leap, the stay. They come at it like a math problem about risk: how much they can stomach, what unknown is waiting on each side.
For years my answer was thin. Pick the thing you won’t regret. Or pick the one whose consequences you can live with. True enough, and not much help.
I have a better answer now. It’s free. I’m running a special on the obvious, today only.
You have almost everything at your fingertips, as long as you put an ounce of your own brain next to it. You can still stand apart from the person beside you, and from the competitor that keeps matching your pace. The shape of value is changing under all of us. One thing is not. You.
I have been thinking harder than ever about what a minute of my time is worth. That happens when you hit a stretch of open space and have to decide what to fill it with instead of stepping through someone else’s plan. So here we are. And yes, we. Standing next to someone who now produces what we produce. Watching a company build into the ground we thought we owned a month ago.
I hear it everywhere. The halls feel crowded. Nobody can keep up. It has never felt more stressful. I feel it too, most days.
Then I remembered the one thing that got me here, the thing every answer I used to give walked right past. AI is not leveling the playing field. It is lessening the effort it takes to level it yourself. Twenty years ago, anyone could have done what I did. Same yesterday. Same tomorrow. The future will always look harder than the past turned out to be.
So the one thing that will not change is me. How I show up. How I make it mine, and make it better than the person standing next to me.
Before you weigh the two roads and price the risk on each, go look in the mirror. You are what got you this far. AI is buying down the effort. It cannot buy down you. Whichever road you pick, you will be what makes it worth taking.
Stop trying to pick the right road. Pick one, and be the reason it was right.
